Chiron is known as the wounded healer, it comes from a Greek word that means "to make whole".
Chiron is discovered in 1977. Astronomers classify Chiron as a "minor planet" or "dual object," combining characteristics of both asteroids and comets. It added a new dimension to astrological interpretation, representing both our deepest wounds and our potential for healing and transformation. Chiron is represented by a key-shaped symbol on your birth chart (⚷). It resembles a capital “K” centered over a capital “O”.
In Greek mythology, Chiron was a centaur known for his wisdom, knowledge of healing arts, and mentorship of heroes. Despite his abilities, Chiron was unable to heal his own wounds, which were inflicted accidentally by a poisoned arrow. This mythological tale serves as a metaphor for the human experience of woundedness and the quest for healing and self-discovery.
So let’s talk about Chiron in astrology.
The Wounded Healer
Chiron tells us about where our wounding lies, a pattern that keeps coming back throughout our lives. It symbolizes our deepest emotional and spiritual wounds, often stemming from past traumas or experiences of rejection, abandonment, or inadequacy. These wounds may manifest in various areas of life, such as relationships, self-esteem, identity, or purpose. Chiron's placement in the birth chart indicates the specific themes and areas of life where we may encounter our greatest challenges and opportunities for growth.
Healing & Integration
Despite its association with woundedness, Chiron also represents our capacity for healing, transformation, and self-awareness. When we start to see the lesson behind it, we can learn how to alchemise the wounding into our biggest gift. Pointing out to us where in our lives we are being invited to mature and develop ourselves, so we can transition from vulnerability to confidence.
The goal is to use Chiron in your advantage, it shows you where you are meant to heal yourself, and then others. The theme of ‘integration’ is of great importance. The invitation here is to integrate our Chiron theme, heal it and use it as our gift. Chiron's influence encourages us to confront our vulnerabilities, confront our shadow aspects, and embark on a path of inner healing and empowerment.
That is why I think Chiron is one the most interesting places in our natal chart, it shows us our opportunity for healing and growth. Explaining the Chiron placements to my clients gives always so much insight and confirmation of recurring patterns that cause pain and wounding. By being aware of your Chiron placement, you can consciously transform your wounding to a place of awareness and healing.
The Maverick & The Teacher
Chiron's placement in the birth chart can also indicate areas where we may feel like outsiders or mavericks, as well as our potential to mentor or guide others through their healing journeys. Chiron's influence may lead us to explore alternative healing modalities, spiritual practices, or therapeutic approaches that resonate with our unique experiences and perspectives.
The Bridge Between Personal and Transpersonal
Chiron serves as a bridge between the personal planets, representing our individual identity and ego (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) and the transpersonal planets, representing collective or generational influences, (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune). Its orbit lies between Saturn and Uranus, symbolizing the integration of tradition and innovation, structure and freedom, and personal responsibility with collective evolution.
Transits and Progressions
When Chiron makes significant aspects to other planets in the birth chart through transits or progressions, it often activates our wounds and brings them to the surface for healing and resolution. These periods may be challenging but offer opportunities for profound growth, insight, and personal transformation.
A couple years ago, I was experiencing a Chiron transit as well (without knowing this). I felt so triggered because of the theme that recurred itself once again, without knowing what to do about it. I felt so much pain and anxiety about this pattern, that I consulted an astrologer myself to find out what was underneath it (this was before I did my astrology training). She told me Chiron was making a hard aspect in my natal chart at that time. The themes she mentioned about my Chiron placement were spot on. I didn’t even tell my situation yet. It was a huge ‘aha’ moment for me. Since then, the theme didn’t occur again. I found a way of healing and coping with it. Sometimes by being aware of certain patterns in your life and knowing where they come from, can already signify a huge shift in how you feel and deal with certain challenges.
Chiron in your Birth Chart
Chiron’s 50-year orbit around the Sun gives an average of 4-5 years in each zodiac sign. That is why in the natal chart its house position offers more insight than its sign. Look at your own Chiron placement and notice any ‘aha’ moment for yourself. This might give conformation about where you feel inadequate, a theme that recurs in your life. From that moment you can start to shift from vulnerability to confidence.

Chiron in astrology represents our journey of healing and self-discovery, acknowledging our wounds, embracing our vulnerabilities, and ultimately finding empowerment and wholeness through the process of inner transformation. It reminds us that our greatest strengths often emerge from our deepest wounds and that healing is a courageous and ongoing journey of self-awareness and self-love.
